6 Year Old Nutritional Information:
6 year olds have special nutritional needs as their bodies are still growing and developing. The growing and developing of a 6 year olds body occurs at a rapid rate, which is why feeding them a well-balanced diet of fruits, vegetables and meats, will help them reach their nutrition needs.
Calories:
Children at the age of 6 need at least 1200-1400 calories each day of healthy and nutritious foods, which are there to help support their growing bodies, because as most of you don't know eating to many sugary foods and fatty foods can result in you getting no calories at all because these foods are classified as foods with empty calories. However if your child was to consumer empty calories, they should consume no more than 120 calories a day.
Protein:
The ideal amount of protein that 6 year old child should have is 19 grams a day, but children should ideally have 10-30% of calories from protein which therefore means that child should have at least 30-40 grams of protein each day. Meat products, Fish and Dairy products are quite high sources in protein, plant based food products provide dietary protein but it does lack in a specific amino acid, which is why most people put plant based products with whole grain products
Carbohydrates and Fibre:
Children of this age need at least 130 grams of carbohydrates everyday, for them to be able to keep there bodies and minds fuelled and active. However some kids consume 150-200 grams per day, these are still in an acceptable range. Carbohydrates generally come from foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains such as oats, whole wheat bread and brown rice; these foods provide complex starch, 6 year olds should have 25 grams of fibre per day.
Dietary Fats:
25-35% of daily calories should come from dietary fats- this equals to about 35-45 grams per day, and it is important for kids of this age to be able to keep these levels of nutrition up so that the children's bodies can continue to grow and develop. Most of these fat based foods should come from food rich in unsaturated fats since these have important properties to keep the body healthy. Children of this age should also have omega-3 fatty acids because this nutrient is important when it comes to reducing inflammation and promoting the growth of the child.
